Voluntary code guides providers on AI Act obligations
The General-Purpose AI Code of Practice, published in July 2025, is a voluntary framework designed to help providers of general-purpose AI models comply with the AI Act’s legal requirements on safety, transparency, and copyright. Developed by independent experts through a multi-stakeholder process, the code allows providers to demonstrate compliance more efficiently and with greater legal certainty. The code consists of three chapters: Transparency, Copyright, and Safety and Security. The first two chapters help all providers meet obligations under Article 53 of the AI Act, while the Safety and Security chapter applies only to providers of advanced models with systemic risk under Article 55. Providers may sign up to the code to show adherence and reduce administrative burdens.
